Kiambethu Tea Farm Kenya
The culture of tea is one loved by many around the globe. There are many unique & exotic flavors which are planted in different farms worldwide. One tea farm that caught kangas attention is that of Mr Arnold Butler McDonell. The impressive farm is situated a few miles from Nairobi Kenya and it is known as the kiambethu tea farm.
Bought by Mr Butler in 1904, it is the first successful tea farm in Kenya. The initial plan was to grow coffee across the 7,200 ft farm which proved difficult after a decade of trying. Mr Arnold kept pushing and eventually started tea farming. This new interest was sparked when a friend visiting from the great India gifted Arnold with various tea samples to try. Today, the Kiambethu tea farm is known globally as the first to grow and sell tea commercially in Kenya.
One thing we learnt from Mr Butler was the importance of hope and perseverance. Today he is known in African history as the first successful tea producer since 1926.
Be sure to visit the amazing farm if you ever find yourself exploring Kenya.
