The Cube Café
"Social commentary and social activism are fundamental to the art we produce, it incorporates our emotional sensibilities and creativity." The Cube Cafe
Head on down to The Cube Café and experience amazing culture in form of art, food and divine music. Nestled in the very heart of Abuja Nigeria, the cube is a creative haven filled with happiness, soul and excitement. It's a KANGA favourite so we simply had to interview the creative minds behind the awesomeness that is The Cube Café and get all the fun details.
Kanga Magazine - Tell KANGA about the owner of 'The Cube Café' and the story behind it. How did it come about?
The Cube Café - Well, The Cube Cafe is the brain child of Enigma Art Collective, which is our Exhibition company and pop-up Gallery which is owned by us. Our passion for the arts has given birth to The Cube. The Cube is really a cross between a traditional coffea/tea house and an art gallery. The ability to appreciate the arts and soak up the tranquility of the space is really an exhibition of sorts to us. I must exclaim we get fulfillment from sharing our gift and talents with other people.
KM - Imagine 'The Cube Café' as a crayon. What colour would it be and why?
TCC - Hmm well we believe if The Cube was a crayon we would be yellow because the color is often associated to food, emotionally it is joy giving and it exudes a feeling of happiness. The color is often used in art to represent intellect as it bursts with energy.
KM - Speaking of colours, KANGA Loves your famous mustard yellow wall. How would you describe this colour to a blind person?
TCC - The mustard yellow wall is really a representation of what we are, and stand for as its vibrant, happy and warm which aligns with our ethos. The truth is you can’t miss the mustard yellow wall, as it's a statement color and that is what we are trying to create at The Cube, a creative statment to all who visit.KM - You hold various fun activities regularly. What other exciting activities or projects do you have in store for the near future?
TCC - As mentioned we are a creative hub and that incapsulates a wide variety of alternative activities which appeals to the eclectic group of people we attract. So without giving up too much we have events coming up this month, like hosting concerts, latin nights, exhibitions and a lot more. So stay tuned.
KM - 'The Cube Café' is a creatives "chill haven!" Tell us about the types of design, art and music you are into.
TCC - Social commentary and social activism are fundamental to the art we produce, it incorporates our emotional sensibilities and creativity. Well, as the interior designer out of the two, Dante has created a space which really captures and blends rustic design with clean modern Scandinavian design. With regards to music, we can honestly say we are very eclectic, a bit of everything really would do.
KM - What can newbies expect on their first visit here?
TCC - We expect that each of our new customers to The Cube is initially greeted with a burst of culture, taste and of course the smell of our fresh grounded Nigerian coffee. We are often told by our customers that they just came to “see” and ended up staying hours. I’m sure many people can testify to this.
KM - Market 'The Cube Café' in 3 words.
TCC - ART . CAFE . SHOP
KM - Give us a KANGA exclusive, tell us one thing most people don't know about The awesome Cube Café
TCC - The Cube Cafe is a family business first. Hence, its ethos lie in the fact that we are continually trying to incorporate cubists (our customers), into the ever growing Cube Family. This means, book clubs, Yoga, Salsa, movie nights etc. And all our events are tuned to maintain and build this family.
