Birds Nest • A Series by Porky Hefer
Ever wondered what it would be like to step into a birds nest? No, right?! But Cape Town based designer Porky Hefer has us reconsidering!
Porky Hefer of Animal Farm is a South African designer that produces designs focused on 'Conceptual Precepts.'
His main designs are centred around product and furniture design as well as public sculptures.
In his series 'Weaver's Nests,' Hefer has designed comfortable life size nests that are situated high up in trees. To come up with this masterpiece, Hefer studied the designs of nature and recreated the birds' nest in an effort to not only create an innovative design but also a sustainable solution to solve real world living problems.
During the design process, Hefer cites the Plociedae or Weaver Bird family's craft of the complex nest designs and he came up with large scale nests that are fit for humans and can carry up to 2 adults at a time! All this is done using real birds' techniques of nest building!
Hefers 'Weavers Nests' have no actual inner steel framework. They are diligently designed and hand crafted using all natural biodegradable materials, such as bark and branches that are woven together.
Hefer creates these nests for specific locations and clients. He can customise the nests to fit the clients preferences.
Sustainable space design at a high! Pun intended!
